About
Our Vision – A Word from Our Founder, Terry P. Lewis
The four-way test recited by Rotarians for the things we think, say, and do:
Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build good will and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
The iconic motto of Superman: Truth, Justice, and the American Way.
The Pledge of Allegiance promotes a republic that is indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
The Justice Institute is a nonpartisan think tank or idea factory to promote justice and oppose injustice wherever we find it, with the conviction that a shared sense of what is fair and just is the glue that holds a society together. We seek to create opportunities for open-minded people to consider and examine the underlying principles and values that lead them to determine what is just and unjust. We will try to reach a consensus on those principles and values and to apply them consistently when evaluating our actions and those of others, including our leaders. That’s our best bet to narrow the cultural and political divide we are facing and help ensure that our republic remains indivisible.
We will analyze specific court cases and critique aspects of the legal system. We will examine current events and issues of public policy. We will try to look beyond the rhetoric and get to the substance. We welcome ideas for topics and projects from members and visitors to this site.
When I say nonpartisan, that doesn’t mean nonpolitical. It is inescapable if we are to evaluate current events and matters of public policy through a lens of fairness and justice. If our leaders act inconsistently with those shared principles and values, they should be called out.
And open-mindedness is a key component. I liken it to selection of a jury. We want people who can be fair and impartial and render a verdict based solely on the evidence and the law. If you have already made up your mind, if you are just looking for validation of your preconceived opinions, this is probably not for you. But if you are willing to keep an open mind and join us on this pursuit of a freer and more just society, you and your ideas are welcome. We invite you to become a member of The Justice Circle. You’ll get notices of upcoming podcasts and events and access to archived articles and podcasts, links to other sites.
And maybe you want to do more. Maybe you want to volunteer your time, energy, skills, knowledge, and experience to help advance our mission. If so, we might have a place for you on the team. Let us know.
